Introduction to the Specialties

     There are many subspecialties in Surgical Department, namely General Surgery (including Digestive Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery), Colon and Rectal Surgery, Breast
Surgery, Neurosurgery (including Neurological Spine Surgery), Cardiovascular Surgery (including Peripheral Vascular Surgery), Thoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery, and Traumatology.

     We are the only hospital in Hsin-Chu and Miao-li area that can perform an open heart surgery and kidney transplantation. We routinely perform coronary artery bypass surgery with the heart beating, so-called beating heart coronary artery surgery or off-pump CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting). Recently we started to do endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm under local anesthesia, which is also unique in this region.

     The Surgical Department also promotes mini-invasive surgeries, especially the endoscopic surgery. The items, at present, the endoscopic surgery can provide include laparoscopic cholecystectomy, biliary duct investigation, appendectomy, colon and rectal surgery, and thoracoscopic chest surgery. The Mini-invasive surgery provides the patient with a smaller wound, lighter pain, and quicker recovery, as well as the same therapeutic benefit from conventional surgery.
