NTUH Hsinchu Br. Establishes International Outpatient Clinic to Enhance Medical Services for Foreign Patients

Hsinchu, Taiwan - Mr. K, a business traveler from Croatia, sought dental care during his visit to Taiwan. Upon examination at a dental clinic, an unidentified white spot was discovered on his upper jaw, prompting a referral to the National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) Hsinchu Branch for further evaluation.
The Center for International Health of NTUH Hsinchu Branch arranged an appointment with Dr. Peng Xin-Hui, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, through the international outpatient clinic. On the day of the visit, an assigned nurse warmly received Mr. K, assisted him with the necessary procedures, and accompanied him throughout the examination. Fortunately, it was determined that a foreign object caused the white spot on the upper jaw, and was successfully removed, with continued observation recommended. Mr. K expressed his gratitude for the convenient appointment scheduling and the English-speaking support, which alleviated his confusion and anxiety during the visit.

NTUH Hsinchu Br. Establishes Muslim Prayer Room and Receives Certification for Muslim-Friendly Environment

In a gesture of respect for diverse cultures and beliefs, National Taiwan University Hospital Hsinchu Br. has recently inaugurated a Muslim prayer room. The initiative has received certification from the Chinese Muslim Association, Republic of China (Taiwan), affirming its commitment to creating a Muslim-friendly environment within the hospital premises. This endeavor fosters a welcoming healthcare atmosphere, promoting cultural diversity and coexistence among ethnic groups.

NTUH Hsinchu Br. has been actively engaged in the New Southbound Medical and Health Industry Cooperation Program initiated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Through sustained efforts, the hospital has facilitated international exchanges and interactions, including hosting medical professionals from Indonesia for training. As the sole designated hospital for foreign health check-ups in the Hsinchu region, the hospital serves over 200 foreign workers monthly and foreign caregivers within the facility. This growing multicultural environment has heightened the demand for a Muslim-friendly healthcare setting.

The newly established Muslim prayer room is designed with partitions to create a secluded space within the bustling hospital environment, offering a tranquil place for Muslim prayers. Catering to the needs of worshipers, the room is equipped with prayer mats, a schedule of prayer times, and directional indicators. Wudu facilities, including foot washing sinks and automatic toilets, have also been provided in nearby restrooms for the convenience and safety of both worshipers and patients.

Dr. Chong-Jen Yu, the Superdirector of NTUH Hsinchu Br., expressed that since the establishment of the Center for International Health last year, the hospital has been attentive to the healthcare environment for international visitors. Given its proximity to the science park and industrial areas, the hospital functions as a miniature United Nations, where various cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs interact and thrive. Dr. Yu hopes that, with the Muslim-friendly environment certification, the hospital can not only offer high-quality medical services but also provide a mutually respectful and trusted friendly environment, embodying comprehensive care for patients' physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

The Secretary-General of the Chinese Muslim Association, Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that Taiwan has numerous public spaces  actively participating in Muslim-friendly environment improvement projects. This collective effort has contributed to Taiwan being ranked among the top three global destinations in the "Crescent Rating" and Master Card's international Muslim-friendly travel destination rankings for three consecutive years. The  Chinese Muslim Association, Republic of China (Taiwan) continues to collaborate with government tourism and healthcare agencies to serve Muslim communities domestically and internationally. The association is pleased to witness NTUH Hsinchu Br.'s commitment to constructing a Muslim-friendly environment, applying for certification, and demonstrating the hospital's respect and inclusivity towards diverse religions.
