Oncology
Cancer is the leading cause of death in Taiwan for more than 3 decades and is one of the leading causes of death in many countries in the Asia-Pacific area. There had been a great improvement in the survival of cancer patients in Taiwan during the past 3 decades, especially in non-small cell lung cancers, breast cancers, and liver cancers.
The Department of Oncology of the National Taiwan University Hospital Hsin-Chu branch is composed of the Division of Medical Oncology and the Division of Radiation Oncology. We take care of more than 3,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients every year, including patients with breast cancers, lung cancers, colorectal cancers, hepatocellular carcinomas, head and neck cancers, gastric cancer…etc. We provide oncology outpatient clinics, outpatient chemotherapy services, and inpatient wards. We also provide cancer-specific nutrition consultation and psychologic consultation.
As anti-cancer therapy is always teamwork, we established a multi-disciplinary team for each cancer type. In each multi-disciplinary team, there are medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and physicians who may be involved in patient care. A clinical coordinator is responsible for the management of each multi-disciplinary team. The clinical coordinator also coordinates the treatment course of each individual cancer patient so that the quality of the care for each individual cancer patient will be guaranteed.
National Taiwan University Hospital is the leading academic medical center in Taiwan, and the Hsin-Chu branch is also good at academic research. We had participated in a lot of international multi-center anti-cancer clinical trials, including phase I, phase 2, and phase 3 trials. We focus more on advanced lung cancers and breast cancers, but we are also interested in other cancer types.
We are confident that the Department of Oncology, National Taiwan University Hospital Hsin-Chu branch is one of the top cancer therapy units in Taiwan as well as the Asian-Pacific region.
